It has been a privilege to have John Gulliver as my general contractor for 2 major repair/renovation projects in my home in the past 12 – 14 months. The first was last summer (2013) when I hired him to re-do my kitchen; my home was built in 1959 and the kitchen definitely showed its age. Although my budget did not allow for replacing the cabinets, John came in and not only made major improvements, he also made valuable recommendations as to the upgrades that I ultimately selected. His precision and attention to detail and style made the entire job a pleasure to observe -- every day when I would come home from work, any mess caused by the project that day had been cleaned up so that I could use the space as much as possible. In spite of the fact that I kept my original cabinets (although they were refinished), the final outcome was a kitchen that looks amazingly modern – new granite countertop, new cooktop with a new microwave over (which involved John cutting a cabinet overhead to stick to code, and the result is lovely), new flooring, new backsplash, new paint, new light fixtures, etc. I have heard all my life how disruptive it is to have a kitchen renovated but John got the job finished in a very timely fashion and the result is beautiful. In addition, I have had contractors do work in my house previously and they would disappear for days at a time. Any wait time with this project was minimal, either because we were waiting for parts/appliances, etc. to arrive, or because we had to wait for things like floor adhesive to set or walls to dry and I was always told when they would be back. The work crew, including John, were friendly, neat, and punctual and they did beautiful work.

In addition to my kitchen renovation, I asked John to come back earlier this summer to do some external repairs to my house. John took the time early on a Saturday morning to walk around the house with me and look at everything that I was concerned about, making recommendations and explaining what and how he would do the repairs. The work was started within a few short weeks (less than a month) and was completed in a timely fashion, again to a level of perfection and attention to detail that I have found to be rare in my experience.

I would recommend John for any job, large or small, in the future and feel certain that I will be seeing more of him in the future.

My husband, John Sprague, and I highly recommend John Gulliver and Gulliver Contracting. We originally hired John to do a gut renovation of two bathrooms, build two closets, and coordinate with our kitchen contractor to complete electrical, plumbing, tile, wood floor, and paint. They coordinated seamlessly, always flexible. Unforeseen issues did arise, we discussed alternatives and John's recommendations, and decided on a resolution.

When we put that house on the market, we hired John to replace the roof, repair/replace trim boards, and other repairs to prepare for sale. Their work helped our home sell in 10 days in fall 2013.

They have just completed a gut renovation of our kitchen in our condo in Medfield and updates to the bathrooms. And we hired them for repairs to our 1944 “beach” home in Marion – re-shingle house, repair outside boards and trims, repair structural problems found in the pre-sale inspection, replace the bulkhead, and inside, new doors, electrical updates, etc.
